Dell Suggests There is Big Value in Faster Employee Provisioning
Dell released results of a survey among 200 senior federal IT workers that focused on adequately staffing federal government agencies. With a total workforce of more than 4.4 million people and a monthly turnover rate of about 80,000 workers per month, the survey concludes that the implementation of effective messaging and directory services could recover funds that are lost due to an "inactive" workforce
. Slow provisioning could cost an organization somewhere between $200 and $4,000, Dell said, accumulating to $100,000 to $2 million per year for an environment that hires 500 new workers per year.
According to Dell,
only 16 percent of respondents said that they can provision a new user within 24 hours of need, while 41 percent of the respondents said that their agency takes from one week to more than two weeks to fully provision new users. 26 percent have moved messaging services and 15 percent have moved directory services to more efficient cloud environments, while 61 percent of respondents believe their organizations are adequately staffed to meet future directory services needs. However, 54 percent of all agencies take longer than one day to de-provision users, Dell found.
The company stated that automated user provisioning services can help close productivity and security gaps that "can potentially expose agency data and compromise resources in the data center and the cloud".
"In today’s environment, it is costly and unnecessary for agencies to take a number of weeks to fully provision new users," said Paul Christman, vice president of public sector sales and marketing for Dell Software. "Often, agencies try to solve their problems with manpower rather than technology, which only creates additional costs and increases the risk for error. Automated directory and messaging services offer an easy solution to this challenge requiring only five minutes of human interaction to fully provision a user. These technologies reduce inefficiencies that government agencies do not have time for and mitigate security risks that can cause serious damage to government assets."
